Do you have questions about physical therapy and how it can help you? You may find an answer in these frequently asked questions.

For adults, physical therapy can be extremely helpful in overcoming issues like:

  • Chronic or occasional pain
  • Injuries
  • Recovery from surgery
  • Sports performance improvement
  • Mobility
  • Reduced quality of life

Physical therapy for children can help with concerns like:

  • Physical impairment
  • Neurological issues
  • Balance or coordination issues
  • Developmental concerns

How do I know whether physical therapy will help?

Our first step will be to evaluate your personal situation to figure out the root causes of your pain or discomfort. If our evaluation shows that therapy can improve your quality of life, we’ll develop a plan. If it shows that you need to see a specialist, we can refer you.

What happens in a physical therapy session at Fox Valley Physical Therapy and Wellness?

Therapy at Fox Valley Physical Therapy and Wellness emphasizes hands-on treatment from your physical therapist. As an adult client, you will likely receive one or more of these types of therapy:

  • Soft tissue massage
  • Joint mobilization
  • Neuromuscular reeducation

Your therapist will build a personalized plan for your treatment. That plan will include the type of therapy and the progression of treatment that fits your personal situation. Because everyone has different needs, each treatment plan is different. Even though each plan is different, every patient gets the same level of professional dedication.

Rest assured that your physical therapist will have a laser focus on your progress toward your goals. He or she will not be working with other clients or doing paperwork while you’re in our clinic. You have our undivided attention.

What is neuromuscular reeducation and how can it help me?

Neuromuscular reeducation can offer a new and better way of moving. It’s most effective with chronic conditions or during recovery after an injury. This technique involves retraining your brain and body in new or adaptive ways to move.

At Fox Valley Physical Therapy and Wellness, we specialize in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of movement dysfunctions. Our goal is to help you achieve the best physical health and wellness.

What kinds of physical therapy do you offer for children?

Our clinic offers some of the best wellness and physical therapy options for children available in our area. On the clinical side, our pediatric physical therapists have specialized training and certifications you won’t find elsewhere. On the interpersonal side, our staff understands kids’ needs. We make each visit fun and stimulating.

I’m finding I can’t do the things I used to be able to do. Can physical therapy help?

Everyone’s body changes as they age. But that doesn’t mean you have to stop doing the things you love to do.

Our physical therapists can perform a thorough movement evaluation and body assessment to find any existing issues. Then, we’ll work together to define realistic goals and a plan for achieving them. To learn more about these programs, visit our page for older adults.

Can physical therapy help improve my performance in a sport?

Lots of athletes think that improving their game is simply a matter of training harder or longer. That’s not always the case. Sometimes, injuries or stiffness cause you to change your mechanics. Unfortunately, when the new approach becomes a habit, it’s hard to fix on your own. That’s where Fox Valley Physical Therapy and Wellness can help.

Teen and adolescent athletes have specific needs due to the rapid growth that happens during these years. Posture and movement problems are common and can interfere with their performance on the field. Our physical therapists have the unique skills they need to help young athletes overcome these issues.

I’m in pain and I can’t get in to see my doctor for weeks. Can you help?

It depends on what’s causing your pain. If you think you have a medical emergency, call your doctor or 911 immediately. If your pain or discomfort is not caused by a life-threatening condition or injury, we may be able to help. You may not even need a doctor’s order to have your treatment covered by insurance.

Your first step is to schedule a comprehensive evaluation at our clinic in St. Charles. We’ll take a look at what’s bothering you. After a thorough exam and motion evaluation, we’ll let you know whether we can help. If we can’t, we’ll recommend a qualified medical professional who can.
