Physical Therapy for Older Adults

At Fox Valley Physical Therapy and Wellness, we understand the unique challenges our older clients face. It’s never fun to lose the function and fitness you once enjoyed. Whether it’s a round of golf, a bike ride or simply playing with your grandkids, we can help you enjoy your favorite activities again. Physical therapy for older adults is one of our specialties.

Our physical therapists offer an advanced, hands-on treatment philosophy specifically geared towards folks like you. We can help you achieve pain relief, improved endurance, and greater ease of movement. You can gain better balance and greater independence with your daily routines—allowing you to return to the activities you enjoy!

Specialized Treatments for Your Health Concerns

Our physical therapists have specialized training in all the skills they need to treat the health concerns of our older clients. In addition to pain relief and restoring ease of movement, our staff can treat the following conditions and more:

  • Balance issues
  • Dizziness or weakness
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Stroke

The Fox Valley Physical Therapy Process

Your treatment begins with a thorough movement evaluation and full body assessment. This helps us find any problems that exist. Once we find the issues, we’ll investigate further to find their root cause so we can prevent them from happening again. And, last but certainly not least, we’ll work with you to develop realistic and achievable goals.

After the evaluation, your therapist will create a personalized treatment plan designed specifically for you. And once you begin working on your plan, your physical therapist will be by your side. The same therapist will work with you at every session. And he or she will focus only on you and your goals while you’re in our clinic.

Here are a few of the therapies you may receive at Fox Valley Physical Therapy and Wellness.

  • Exercises to improve flexibility and strength
  • Training on our AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill (see below)
  • Neuromuscular reeducation to rebuild the connection between your neurological system and muscles
  • Movement retraining to help you learn new, more comfortable ways of moving
  • Vestibular rehabilitation to address inner ear balance issues
  • LSVT BIG treatment to help Parkinson’s patients improve mobility

AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill

Fox Valley Physical Therapy and Wellness is committed to helping our older patients get back to doing what they love. That’s one reason why we have invested in an AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill. The AlterG® uses air pressure to reduce the effects of gravity on your body as you walk. In effect, it reduces the load of your body weight on your joints and feet. That reduced impact enables you to move, free of the restriction and pain you feel normally. This way, you can gradually rebuild your strength, range of motion, balance and endurance to levels you may never have dreamed of achieving. It’s the ideal therapy for folks trying to regain mobility and get back to their favorite activities.
