Orthopedic Physical Therapy
At Fox Valley Physical Therapy and Wellness, physical therapy for orthopedic conditions addresses issues associated with your muscles and skeletal system. While many people are familiar with this type of therapy, you may have unanswered questions. Here are a few we hear often.
What conditions can orthopedic physical therapy help?
There are many issues with muscles, bones and connective tissue that respond well to orthopedic physical therapy. Some examples are:
- Chronic pain
- Issues with posture
- Pelvic pain
- Shoulder pain and stiffness
- Recovery from surgery
- Work injuries
- Jaw issues like TMJ
- Plantar fasciitis
What types of physical therapy are good for orthopedic conditions?
There are several treatments that work well for orthopedic issues.
Manual physical therapy treatment includes soft tissue massage, stretching and joint mobilization.
Neuromuscular re-education helps you find new and better ways of moving when you have a chronic condition or are recovering from an injury.
Stretching and strengthening exercises help repair injured tissue and prevent future injury.
AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill therapy – One of the many unique therapies we offer at Fox Valley Physical Therapy and Wellness is the AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill. The AlterG® uses air pressure to reduce the effects of gravity on your body as you walk or run. That reduction of gravity reduces the load of your body weight on your joints and feet. With less weight to bear, your muscles and joints can move, free of significant restriction and pain. You’re able to gradually rebuild your strength, range of motion and fitness to your previous level and beyond.
Mild electrical stimulation and ultrasound help by increasing blood flow and reducing pain.
Do I need to have an injury or surgery to qualify for physical therapy for my orthopedic condition?
Lots of people think orthopedic physical therapy is only for rehabbing an injury or recovering from surgery. But the highly trained team at Fox Valley Physical Therapy and wellness can help in other ways. If you have back pain or chronic achiness throughout your body, you have conditions that can improve with physical therapy.
You don’t necessarily need a diagnosis from your doctor. A comprehensive evaluation by our physical therapists can determine whether physical therapy can help. And, if it can, we’ll develop a plan that’s specific to your situation. Your personal therapist will work closely with you to help you get back to doing the things you love without pain or discomfort.
