Pediatric Physical Therapy

At Fox Valley Physical Therapy and Wellness, our family of experts is here to service your family. We offer pediatric evaluations and physical therapy treatment for children, birth through 21 years. Our well-trained pediatric clinicians have the expertise to understand the unique challenges and needs of this age group and strive to provide a friendly and motivating environment to make each visit fun and stimulating!

Pediatric physical therapy helps children to move and function with greater ease and independence. We combine a variety of treatment techniques with parent education to reach each child’s individual goals.

We treat the following pediatric diagnoses:

  • torticollis
  • plagiocephaly
  • developmental delay
  • hypotonia
  • brachial plexus injury
  • scoliosis
  • down syndrome and other less common syndromes
  • sensory integration dysfunction
  • cerebral palsy
  • spina bifida
  • muscular dystrophy
  • toe-walking
  • post-operative diagnoses
  • juvenile rheumatoid arthritis
  • autism
  • constipation and bedwetting

We offer varied treatment options including:

  • Neurodevelopmental treatment
  • Kinesiotaping
  • Lower extremity biomechanic evaluation and orthotic prescription
  • Electrical stimulation
  • Myofascial release
  • Sensory integration
  • Soft tissue and joint mobilization

These varied methods of interaction with the patient promote increased range of motion and joint mobility, improved strength and posture, more efficient and typical gait, and ultimately improved function with greater independence of movement.

Early intervention

When treatment is initiated early on, you maximize the potential for change for your child. For this reason, our services begin at infancy. Our therapists are credentialed through the state of Illinois to provide both evaluation and treatment in Early Intervention for children 0-3 years old. These services are conveniently offered in your child’s natural environment including home, school, daycare or other community locations.

Our pediatric physical therapists work very closely with physicians, school therapists and teachers as well as other specialized clinicians such as pediatric occupational and speech therapists to provide the most comprehensive approach. This collaboration facilitates smooth transitions from Early Intervention to school and from home-based treatment to the clinic.

Parent, patient and therapist goals are outlined prior to implementation of the treatment program and are used as a baseline for progress evaluation. Each child’s maximum functional potential is achieved through treatment and frequency and duration are specific to the client. Also, family involvement is extremely important to the overall success of the treatment program.

Can My Child Benefit?

Although we provide treatment for children with clinical diagnoses such as Cerebral Palsy and Autism, we also assist children who are experiencing difficulty meeting motor milestones but have not yet been clinically diagnosed with a specific condition. Children can benefit from physical therapy intervention if they are having trouble with any of the following:

  • Learning how to crawl or walk
  • Sitting or standing without support
  • Walking up and down stairs
  • Walking and running without tripping or falling
  • Learning to play sports
  • Catching or throwing
  • Playing without getting tired, keeping up with his/her peers

We offer free screenings to new patients in order to answer questions such as “Can my child benefit from physical therapy?” A free, 15 minute assessment can help determine a specific problem or need that could benefit from physical therapy intervention. This initial screening could then be followed by a more thorough evaluation to establish goals, treatment options, duration, and frequency requirements.

“Mary Kelly has been working with our son for over a year now. Thanks to her incredible insight, she has been able to unravel several issues that no other therapist had even identified. With her perspective, patience, and extensive experience, Mary has given our son the opportunity to overcome his physical challenges. Our community is so fortunate to have Mary and Chris Kelly and their entire staff at Fox Valley Physical Therapy and Wellness!!”
